Site layout woes
God it pisses me off to be struck with the desire to change my layout, and I hate how strong the feeling is. I'm sure it'll eventually wean off, but it leads me down a mental rabbithole of 'I wish it was easier to have my content set up in such a way that if I decide to pursue layout changes it won't break the content' and 'I want full control over the HTML I'm using' which is what puts me off from static site generators.
(That and they give me a headache to even read through the documentation.)
And it's even more annoying when I'm happy with the layout of my site, cause I love how it came out, so I don't know if it's the itch to get a new layout, or to gut my site and re-code it in a more ... clean way? And it's like ... which is it?!??!?!? 💔
I'm pretty sure it's the desire to re-code my site in a way that's cleaner, but it's also something I dread if only for the fact that it's a big site so far ... and to haul everything over from a big fat zero is eugh ... eeughh. Long-term project.
I'm gonna ask people about it and what they do when the itch hits ... maybe one day I'll try to re-code my site from zero and maybe optimize it in such a way where it's a little easier for me, and have cleaner CSS code. It might be a good challenge to dissect my own code and re-do it maybe in a branch of my existing site, OR as a copy somewhere which I can bring back when I'm happy with it.
Maybe it'll be a good time to revisit the layout but truthfully ... I don't think I'll be changing it anytime soon. I do wish CSS had variables like tumblr's site does that allows for simple true/false or toggles to swap certain things in and out. I wish it was easy to just swap CSS files in and out and have the layout adjust to it too but considering layout is also dependent on HTML, it's a little more annoying.
Some part of me was considering it'd be funny to just use the deviantART page I've been working on as a project for my new layout, but the issue is devart's layout is not catered to having too many navbar tabs, nor dropdowns, and it's definitely not mobile friendly without a lot of shenanigans and giving up some of the layout necessities.

Anyway, less of a blog post and more of an annoyed rant!!! I'm sure I'll eventually find a solution.
EDIT: Uhh good news, redoing my site layout from scratch to optimize/clean up the CSS has helped some of that itch ...
